Then, having finished it, I realised my ribbon cables have not yet arrived, and I'm not comfortable soldering directly to the gpio pins themselves, so I guess I'm going to have to wait before I can try it out. I got all that working, finding the right remote file, compiling and installing lirc, etc. Refer to the other LIRC documentation for instructions on how to test receiving with irw and transmitting with irsend.
